Vasconcellea ‘Heavy Cropper’

Seeds from our hardiest and heaviest producing tree.
Leaves and all fruit are retained over winter (in Northland)
with some ripening throughout the year. The main flowering is
Spring and Summer. The pollen parent is unknown as there
are several male Vasconcellea in the garden however since
the tree sets fruit in winter when there is no flowering from
the other Vasconcellea it may be self seeded.
The inner fruit flesh is sweet but the fruit is quite small
compared to most other clones. The outer flesh is not very
interesting but no doubt cooking briefly would make it more
enticing. Fully ripe fruits fall from the tree in good condition.
The photographed tree is close to 4 m in height and has
been in the ground for four years. Cuttings from the pictured
tree are available on special request, please ensure to use the name heavy cropping vasconcellea when requesting.
Seeds need warmth to germinate and can take 4 or more
weeks to come up with germination being erratic.
