White sage - Salvia apiana
Mainly used for making smudge sticks, white sage is easy to
grow on well draining soils. Low fertility soils will result in
smaller plants but these are hardier than plants grown on
fertilised soils. Plants grow to 1m but tend to spread easily. They take two years to reach a cutting stage where leafy branches can be cut and dried. Flowers are small and rather insignificant.
Seeds can be erratic in germination. Sow at room temperature in spring and divide the seedlings once they are large enough to handle. Plant these in
individual pots for planting out in the garden or into a large tub.
