Papaver somniferous ‘Double Red’

Papaver somniferous ‘Double Red’

SKU: R38

Collected from the best doubles but some plants will have only single or weakly double petals. Simply beautiful in the cooler months, they bring a much-needed burst of colour.

Seeds need cool temperatures to germinate, if sown outdoors they usually come up in late April into May but can also be planted right through winter and early Spring. Please note that poppys cross-pollinate, so if you wish to keep the colours from year to year , plant them at least 50 ft from other varietys so they are less likely to cross

  • Germination

Seeds can be germinated in pots but it is best to sow 6-10 seeds/small pot and once up and with some leaves they can be carefully transplanted as a small group where they are to grow.  For early poppies, sow seeds in bagged pots and keeping them in the fridge for 5 days. Seeds will germinate at fridge temperature and can then be grown on and planted out.

  • Approximate minimum seed count per pack
