‘Red Kuri’ pumpkin / Cucurbita maxima
A smallish squash-type pumpkin which bears fruit early. They are not long keepers but are excellent in autumn while the more traditional pumpkins are still developing their flavours. Can be grown in a small space as the vines are not as vigorous and the leaves not as large as regular pumpkins. The skin a thin and not difficult to penetrate so easy to cut up.

Germination
Grow as for other pumpkin seeds, sow into 7.5cm (3in) pots filled with multi-purpose compost. Sow the flat seeds on their side, 1cm (½in) deep, inserting only one into each pot to ensure minimal root disturbance when transplanting outdoors later.
